Who are God's Chosen People?
The ancient Hebrew people were chosen by God to be a light to the world even though the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were living as slaves in Egypt. Moses said to Pharaoh, “Let my people go (Exodus 5:1).” As they left Egypt, God gave Laws and Commandments to Moses (Exodus and Leviticus). As God’s Chosen People, their faith and obedience would make them a light to the Gentiles.
As time progressed, they were told to look for the promised Messiah. They knew from Daniel’s prophecy of 70 weeks that the time (about 26 AD) had come. Jesus announced, “Before Abraham was born, I AM (John 8:58).” He then brought a New Covenant to His people, “You have heard it said to you, but I say….(Matthew 5:22,28,32,39).” He perfectly fulfilled the Law of Moses and became the perfect sacrificial Lamb of God. He is the Light of the world.
Under this New Covenant, God now has a new Chosen People. All people of the world — Jew, Gentile, male, female, rich or poor — who accept Jesus as their Lord/Savior/Messiah are the new Chosen People. The Apostle Peter wrote to Christians in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, “You were chosen…to obey Jesus Christ and be purified by His blood, I Peter 1:2.”
Let’s praise God for the New Covenant. You can read all about it in the New Testament of the Bible (Matthew to Revelation).
