Ken's Blog : Does God Want Us to Fall Backwards? Archive>
The short answer is no. Instead of lying on the floor for 10 to 20 minutes (or longer), there are more important things Christians can do with their time.
Most of us have seen television faith healers call people to come up front for prayer. While the person has his/her eyes closed, the faith healer will give the person a push, at which time the participant will fall backwards, expecting catchers to prevent a hard fall.
Is this practice recorded in the Bible? No. Instead, John in the book of Revelation describes what happened when the redeemed from every race, tribe, nation and language stood in front of the throne of the Lamb, "...they threw themselves face downward in front of the throne and worshiped God...." (Rev 7: 11, TEV).
Rev 11: 16 states, "Then the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones in front of God threw themselves face downward and worshiped God...."(TEV).
So the biblical method is to fall face forward in praise and worship of King Jesus. Falling backwards can be dangerous. One person fell at a church service. No one caught her and her head bounced off the hard concrete.
So let's do this, "Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker...." (Psalms 95: 6, NIV).
